Benjamin Beilman, violin

Einav Yarden, pianoRecently named the First Prize winner of the 2010 Montréal International Musical Competition, violinist Benjamin Beilman is rapidly gaining attention for his “impeccable” playing and “eloquence and flair” (MusicalAmerica.com). He also captured the People’s Choice Award during his performances in Montréal and, as a winner of Philadelphia’s prestigious Musical Fund Society Career Advancement Award in 2010, he will be presented in recital by the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society. Mr. Beilman is a 2007 Presidential Scholar in the Arts and the recipient of a Gold Award in Music from the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts.

Mr. Beilman made his Philadelphia Orchestra debut in June 2009, a performance The Philadelphia Inquirer praised for its “emotional weight” and “distinctive, full-bodied sound.” He has also appeared as soloist with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Toledo Symphony, Cayuga Chamber Orchestra, Kalamazoo Symphony, L’Orchestre Metropolitain de Montréal, and the RAI National Symphony in Turin, Italy, among others. Highlights of the 2010-2011 season include performances with the New Mexico and Longmont symphony orchestras, as well as recitals and chamber performances for the Pittsburgh Chamber Music Society, Linton Chamber Music Series, and Astral Artists.
Only 20, Benjamin Beilman has already won numerous competition prizes. He is the First Prize winner of both the 2009 Schmidbauer Competition and the 2009 Corpus Christi International Competition, where he was also awarded the special Bach prize. He won the Gold Medal at the Stulberg International String Competition and was the Grand Prize winner of the American String Teachers Association National Solo Competition in 2007. A winner of Astral Artists’ 2009 National Auditions, he was also awarded the MILKA/ASTRAL VIOLIN PRIZE, designated for a violinist invited to join Astral’s roster.

A passionate chamber musician, Mr. Beilman has been a featured artist at the Marlboro Music Festival since the age of 17, and tours with “Musicians from Marlboro” in the spring of 2011. He has collaborated with members of the Guarneri, Emerson, and Orion string quartets, as well as with such eminent artists as Mitsuko Uchida, Richard Goode, Gary Graffman, Pamela Frank, Peter Wiley, Roberto Díaz, and Ida Kavafian. He has also appeared at Music from Angel Fire, the Verbier Festival, and on Ravinia’s “Rising Stars” concert series. As a member of the Vuilliani String Quartet, he performs on the New School’s Schneider Concert Series in February 2011.

Mr. Beilman’s media appearances include performances on National Public Radio’s “Performance Today” and “From the Top,” the McGraw-Hill “Young Artists Showcase” on WQXR New York Radio, and Chicago WFMT’s “Impromptu.” He has been profiled in the New Yorker, Symphony, Strad, Strings, and Philadelphia magazines.

Benjamin Beilman studies with Ida Kavafian at the Curtis Institute of Music, where he pursues a Bachelor of Music degree in Violin Performance. He studied previously with Almita and Roland Vamos at the Music Institute of Chicago.
