Distinguished Youth Festival Winners

The Tri-County Concerts Youth Festival has been a stepping stone to achievement for many of the thousands of young musicians who have participated since the competition's inception in 1943. Past winners include these musicians who have established national and international careers:

Ellen DePasquale (1985), associate concertmaster of the Cleveland Orchestra.

Cynthia Folio (1971), flutist, award-winning composer, and associate professor of music theory at Temple University's Esther Boyer College of Music.

James Gorton (1965), co-principal oboe of the Pittsburgh Symphony.

David E. Kirk (1978), principal tuba of the Houston Symphony.

Carl Lenthe (1972), former principal trombone of the Bavarian State Opera Orchestra under Wolfgang Sawallisch and currently professor for trombone and euphonium at Indiana University School of Music.

Timothy Lees (1984), concertmaster of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra.

Elizabeth Starr Masoudnia (1978), solo English horn of the Philadelphia Orchestra.

Deborah Reeder (1960s), principal cello of the Opera Company of Philadelphia Orchestra and cellist in the Philadelphia Trio.

Craig Sheppard (1961), internationally known piano soloist with major symphony orchestras here and abroad.

Peter Smith (1986), associate principal oboe of the Philadelphia Orchestra.

Burchard Tang (1989 and 1991), member of the viola section of the Philadelphia Orchestra.

David Wetherill (1966), co-principal horn of the Philadelphia Orchestra.

John Wetherill (1971), principal bassoon of the Indianapolis Symphony.

Anne Martindale Williams (1968), principal cello of the Pittsburgh Symphony.
